Most of the books are in a locked cabinet in the main room (a few more are scattered about). The trash can is next to the desk, but you can move it closer to the cabinet. You'll also want to empty it. Once the cabinet is unlocked, just drop five books into the trash can. It appears that a book is counted even if it is later removed from the trash, so don't worry about having to fit five in at the same time.
