This is almost unmissable as its part of the main story but it is actually possible to fail and die.
You need to head to Roy's Mart right at the beginning of the game and take out some looters. The zombrex should be in the pharmacy, which you get the key to when you defeat all three looters. You can also save your first survivor, Denyce.
